Designing a period property with a contemporary twist
Project Vision
Working with a client living abroad to transform this period property into a modern living apartment whilst allowing the period features to shine through. The space needed to feel like a home away from home when the family visited London, and had to include a studio space for a design student.
With limited face to face contact with this client, we were trusted entirely with every aspect of the design, build and installation with one final reveal at the end of the project - a turn key solution. A big part of the brief, and one of our most exciting design solutions, was to create a cinema space with no TV, no screens, and no media units on show disrupting the space.
Project Delivery
We worked with specialists to restore original stairs and wood flooring, and designed custom joinery to enhance space, provide much needed storage, and conceal existing air conditioning units. This included wardrobes, kitchen units and the most extraordinary - a red dresser with integrated lighting designed and built to appear free standing in the dining area.
Through a highly bespoke AV solution including concealed projector and screen, we gave the client the full cinema experience at the push of a button, only for all aspects to blend in when out of use.
In the living room we chose a hand made silk Pierre Frey wallpaper with gold gilded details as the backdrop for the more contemporary furniture and lighting. Whilst in the contemporary kitchen, a stunning feature pendant was installed over the kitchen island and a new window seat built to add a softness to the space. An extensive living wall was installed on the terrace to create a view through terrace doors giving the apartment its own private green space.
In the two bedrooms, each piece was carefully curated from the hand knotted silk rug and the bed with metal fretwork inset in the headboard in the master bedroom, to the desk that worked seamlessly in front of historical double doors in the guest bedroom.
It was a pleasure to work with clients who shared our appreciation and admiration for craftsmanship and allowed us to procure some truly spectacular bespoke pieces on their behalf.
